President’s Message, January 2009

THANK YOU!

Dear Friends,

This past year for the first time the Burns Bog Conservation Society, like other non-profit organizations, sent out an online appeal for donations at this time of year. While we welcome and need your financial support (and we will send that letter another day--). In this end-of-year message I want to share our appreciation and gratitude for the many ways you have offered your support and help in 2008.

To Our Financial Contributors:

We'd like to gratefully acknowledge the people and organizations who gave financial support to the Burns Bog Conservation Society in 2008. Your donations, sponsorships and grants are invaluable. In these challenging times your financial contributions, large and small, are helping us take the "minimum next steps" to carry out our work on your behalf to join others around the globe who like us are fighting to save peatlands.

Your support helped our education programs to grow and enrich and educate even more children, their parents and their teachers this past year. This couldn't happen without you.  Thank you so much!

(a list of 2008 financial contributors will be posted on our website in the future)

To the incredible volunteers of the Burns Bog Conservation Society:

  • the office volunteers who have given their time to do everything from stuffing envelopes to washing dishes and everthing in between. Thank you.
  • the Delta Nature Reserve volunteers, including those names I don't have, who pick up garbage and keep the area clean. The volunteers who check the boardwalk and maintain it. The silent guardians who ensure that the Delta Nature Reserve is a pleasant place to walk and enjoy the outdoors.Thank you.
  • the volunteer who updates our website. Thank you.
  • the board of directors who give tirelessly of their time. Thank you.
  • the volunteers who plan and help out at our special events. Thank you.
  • the politicians who recognize the ecological importance of Burns Bog and other peatlands. Thank you.
  • the supporters who write letters and bend decision-makers ears at every opportunity. Thank you.
  • the businesses who donate their time or expertise to the Society. Thank you.
  • the Advisory board members for their advice and expertise. Thank you.

To each and every one of you who give so much in your own way to ensure the future of Burns Bog and other peatlands around the world--we can't thank you enough.

To the staff of the Corporation of Delta and Metro Vancouver who are working to restore the conservation area of Burns Bog. Thank you.

To our sister organizations and everyone who work to stop the disappearing of our endangered peatlands. Thank you.

Besides our wonderful members, supporters and our other friends and colleagues, this year we give thanks for the opportunities that await us in 2009. We particularly welcome the promise of a new and supportive climate for the protection of our peatlands.

May this year bring us all closer together, give us a powerful collective voice for the protection of our peatlands and see a happier, more prosperous, environmentally, economically balanced and caring world for all of you and yours.

All the best for the coming New Year.
